BHS National Art Honor Society

Tonight, I had the honor of speaking about my life and career in photography at the National Art Honor Society ceremony at my alma mater, Boardman High School. It was incredibly inspiring to see so many students SO passionate about art. Never lose that spark, young artists! You'll change the world someday! ✌🏻❤📷🎨

I wanted to share my speech with you all. An excerpt:

Pirouettes

"My experience here also taught me to make mistakes, because sometimes, those mistakes turn out to be happy accidents instead. I remember one day in the darkroom, my teacher Mr. Fecik spotted an 8x10 I had just processed. It was blurry to the point where the subjects - little girls in school uniforms - were unrecognizable. I was disappointed, but he held up the image for everyone to see - i was horrified. To my surprise, Mr. Fecik simply said: This is art. He saw my photograph for what it was, not what it was supposed to be. I called this photograph Pirouettes, as it looked like dancers spinning in motion. That photograph would be the capstone of my portfolio that went on to win a Gold Key from the Scholastic Art Awards during my senior year."

THE VINDYS • PROMO SHOTS

My favorite band The Vindys is releasing an album this spring! I spent some time with them in the studio while they were recording, but in the meantime, we took some new promo shots!

NO MORE PEACE • YSU THEATER

Although No More Peace has rarely been staged since it was written in 1935 by Ernst Toller, its themes are as relevant today as they were when Hitler came to power. As a review in The Vindicator says, "In a slightly Absurdist way, it takes on many themes of the 1930s – nationalism, scapegoating, intolerance – that are once again rearing their head."

The cast and crew of YSU's No More Peace have once again produced an impressive, visually stunning show that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The production is directed by C. Austin Hill, a first-year professor of theater at YSU. The cast includes Ben Mowrer, Mac Callahan, Simon Davis, AnnMarie Lowerre, Halla Henry, Mia Colon, Jessica Hirsh, Sarah Mentzer, Brooke Nobbs, Megan Jones, Rosie Bresson, Mason Edmunds, Josh Crank, Shanon Coleman, Alicia Reed, Ian McBride, Nathan Wagner, Leah Tekac, Paige Rebber and Ciara Rosario.

Catch the last weekend of No More Peace March 3-4 at 7:30pm, and March 5 2pm at Spotlight Theater in Bliss Hall. Buy tickets here
